Activities

The Computer Centre in Ranchi University was sanctioned by UGC in 1976, and was setup with Mainframe Computer (Type TD-316), supplied by ECIL.

Major Activities of Computer Centre

1. Ran a course in Post- graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA)

2. Conducted Computer Literacy Programme for Staff

3. Provided assistance in preparation of University Budget

4. Worked as Tabulation Centre for various examinations of Ranchi University (1996-2008)

5. Since the work of tabulation and other examination related works increased manifold, these works were shifted to a new building in July 2008

6. Registration of Students in University Departments, P. G. Vocational Courses, Journalism, Law, Medical (RIMS,RINPAS, CIP) and Engineering (NIFFT).

7. Organisation of University Convocations.

8. Management and maintenance of INFLIBNET Centre, established in 2005.

9. Providing INFLIBNET and internet access to teachers, research scholars and students.

10. Maintenance of the Website of the University.

11. Developed the Following Softwares: CAS, API Score Calculator, Appointment of Need based Assistant Professor

12. Managing the e- Learning Centre, equipped with 30 Computers providing INFLIBNET facilities for research scholars namely Shodhgangotri, ShodhShuddhi and Shodhganga

13. Shodhgangotri – Repository of research in Progress / Synopses: Number of Synopses uploaded in Shodhgangotri -355.

14. ShodhShuddhi – Inflibnet Centre is Providing Drillbit Extreme(Plagiarism Detection Software) under the ShodhShudhi Programme. Number of Plagiarism Checked in ShodhShuddhi-239.

15. Shodhganga – The Shodhganga provides a platform for research students to submit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access: Number of theses uploaded in Shodhganga– 186.

Pay Fixation

The Centre has been instrumental in fixation of Pay of teachers and non-teaching staff of the University in the 6th Pay Scale and 7th, including Minority Colleges, through a software made at the Centre itself.

Future Plan

The Computer Centre is establishing A-View Classroom. A-View is a joint venture of MHED, Govt. of India, IIT Bombay, Amrita University, and supported by NME-ICT. This will be used for recording important lectures of the teachers of Ranchi University, which will be uploaded on the A-View database for national and international dissemination. Simultaneously, the Centre is making arrangements for live/recorded display of lectures of reputed Professors in various Universities of India and abroad on selected topics.
